Transfiguration of Perpetuity
Painting Series | 2024–2025
Transfiguration of Perpetuity is a series of paintings that responds to the emotional and philosophical landscapes shaped by wildfires. Positioned within the discourse of the Anthropocene, the series reflects on the rupture between humans and nature while simultaneously drawing from Iranian mythology, where fire is not merely destructive but a cosmic force of purification, transformation, and continuity.
The works explore landscapes that exist outside of linear time—spaces suspended between decay and renewal. This sense of timelessness is deeply rooted in the Iranian worldview, where mythological narratives position natural cycles as part of a larger, eternal order. Trees, often depicted in burned or fragmented forms, appear as witnesses to both historical trauma and potential rebirth.
Grounded in the scientific concept of ecological succession—the gradual process of recovery in ecosystems following disturbance—the series offers a visual language for slow healing. It invites reflection on the deep temporalities of the natural world, which far exceed the urgency of human timelines. In doing so, it resists the aesthetics of catastrophe and instead centers the quiet, often invisible processes of resilience.
